Autism and Anxiety are Rejected as Qualifying Conditions to the Ohio MMCP Medical Board
Autism and Anxiety will not be recommended as qualifying conditions to the MMCP Medical Board when they vote in September. On August 14 the review committee convened after examining expert testimonies. However, it did not have enough members present to vote, with two of its four members absent. Nevertheless, they quickly appointed two additional board members who were present, in the room, at the time, to join the vote. This small group recommended against adding both these conditions to Ohio’s medical marijuana program.
Based on medical research, thirteen other states consider Autism as a qualifying condition. Illinois added it just a few weeks ago. Four states currently allow medical marijuana to treat Anxiety. Ohio’s full board will meet to vote for or against the committee’s recommendation.
MMCP will accept new petitions for qualifying conditions to review on November 1. Last year it received 110 petitions, examined five new conditions, rejected three and is expected to vote down Autism and Anxiety on September 11.
